What should the manager training include?
Good managers are not born, but are made by training and experience. The deep knowledge about the product or the service that the company offers is a good advantage, but it’s easily not the most important knowledge a successful manager should have in order to be effective on his position. Management generally means finding solutions to problems and controlling the employees – skills, which take too long to acquire through experience.
The idea of the manager training programs is not only to help the individual develop the needed essential skills for the position, but to also focus his attention on the priorities he needs to have.
The good manager can affect the employee’s performance rate, the work atmosphere and the financial situation of the company. In short, most of the processes depending on the managerial team are vital for the success of the company, so you need trained managers if you want to complete your business goals.
But what does the manager training include? What are the focus, the knowledge, the skills a successful manager should have? The answers are in the next few paragraphs:
Business theory
It may sound obvious, but a manager should have a deep knowledge about his company, in order to perform his day-to-day duties. However, as we’ve mentioned, the product/service knowledge is not as essential as most people tend to think. Yes, it is important, but most successful managers have a good grasp of the major employment laws – how to legally hire and release people, how to proceed in cases of interpersonal clashes – harassment, discrimination, disciplinary releases etc., everything that will help him perform his duties in the most effective manner.
Practical application
The knowledge for the problem is one third of the solution, but taking action and solving the problem is the rest. After localizing the problem points, the good manager should be able to apply his knowledge. He should look at the whole picture and not focus only on the micro processes. The football coach doesn’t go in the field every time his team makes a mistake, his job is to find a way to make them stop do such mistakes.
Leadership
There is a difference between managing and leading, and most people don’t seem to know it. Leaders make positive changes, think few steps ahead and are able to implement their strategies in a way that inspires his employees. The manager follows the rules, controls the employees and finds solutions to problems. The manager training combines these two things.
Communication skills
The manager training programs help managers learn the different types of communication systems and which one to choose them for the particular communication at hand. With such training the manager can develop his public speaking skills and handling one-on-one employee meetings.
Companies as ours, that make manager trainings, focus mainly on these skills, the combination of which makes a successful manager. Experience is very important, but developing these skills through experience may take years and they won’t develop evenly. But if you want a professional managerial team that effectively takes responsibility for its position, than the manager training is the right thing to do.
